This next part of our journey is filled with anticipation. Serina and I have traveled or lived throughout Southeast Asia, China, Europe, 48 States,Mexico and a few places in between, yet believe it or not, we have never been on a cruise. That all changes today.

Although significant, the Valley of the Queens is somewhat smaller than the valley of the Kings. It was reserved for the Queens and the royal children. It’s a long walk uphill to the temple and tombs. On the way up to the main entry, you climb 3 levels.

Last night our ship sailed to Aswan so when we finished breakfast we were ready to see some more wonders of Egypt. Our first stop is the unfinished Obelisk. The granite quarry is one of 3 main areas where the ancient Egyptians cut and polished the giant obelisks seen in Luxor.

Today we caught our flight back to Cairo and back to the Mena House. On the way I asked the driver to once again take us back a different way so we could experience more of Cairo. Once we got close to our hotel I was able to get some great shots of the Pyramids from a new angle. They truly are magnificent.

Breakfast starts early today because we have a full schedule. After a quick bite and staring at the Pyramids from our table, we proceed to Old Cairo to visit the Citadel of Salah El Din, and the Muhammad Ali Mosque situated high above the city.

The second half of our day is dedicated to exploring a world class museum. The Egyptian Museum houses the largest and finest collection of Ancient Egyptian artifacts in the world. Built in 1901, it is the largest museum in all of Africa. Almost 1/3 of the 2nd floor is dedicated to Pharaoh Tutankhamen’s treasure, including the gold burial mask, probably the best-known work of art in the world.
