Today we sail to 2 interesting places. The first is Edfu. Our ship set sail at 3:30am and when we woke up were in the city.

In order to reach the temple we must take a carriage ride through the old city. Think Wild West with all the sounds and congestion of Cairo but on a smaller scale. The carriages are something out of the turn of the last century. Basically falling apart. The horses aren’t in much better condition. Kinda sad but it’s their way of life.

The Edfu temple is a beautiful example of the genius of the Egyptian people. The design is almost perfect with many hidden passages. To light the inside of the temple they designed windows in strategic locations along the ceiling to allow light to shine inside the dark corridors.

After our visit to the temple, we returned to our ship to sail to our next destination – The Kom Ombo Temple. While on board we watched the chaos taking place in the streets below. I attached a video to give you an idea of what I’m talking about.

We arrived in Kim Ombo a bit after 5 so we had just enough time to tour the temple. Kim Ombo is fascinating with its huge columns, hospital, treasury and housing. The hieroglyphs speak of an advanced culture that seemed to think of everything. One thing that was really interesting was their respect and worship of the Nile Crocodile. They honored the Crocodiles by giving them their own tombs and mummified the creatures. Truly bizarre.

We returned to our ship just after sunset, just in time for dinner and drinks in the lounge. Overall it was a great day.

More to follow soon.
