After yesterday’s walkathon, we are looking forward to less walking today and more sightseeing. We start off our day with a visit to the Machane Yehuda Market or Shuk as it is known. This is a local open air market with all kinds of kosher foods. If you like Halva, fresh fruits, fresh fish, spices, fresh baked bread and other staples, then this is your place.

After wandering around for an hour or so and picking up a few things, we head off to an incredible newer museum, Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum. Serina and I have literally been to hundreds of museums around the world, but this is one of finest we have ever visited. Although it chronicles a very sad and tragic period in history, the museum is very well designed and curated to give visitors a very clear understanding of how the holocaust came about and the unfortunate events that took place.

I would have to say that we came away from the main exhibition with sadness and a better understanding of the history behind it all. Within the museum itself are several minor exhibition’s that are very powerful on their own, with the children’s memorial being the most impactful. I don’t want to give away too much for anyone who will visit the museum in the future, but the continual reading of the names of those children who were killed during the holocaust is overwhelming. Praises for the people who designed this incredible museum.
